Perennial Seeds
We all have hobbies and activities that we do for fun or to have a good time. Some of them give immediate gratification, like videogames or playing catch. Others need some time investment before they give results. However, for those that really enjoy such activities, the payoff is more than worth the trouble. One of such activities is gardening.
Some people think that gardening involves a lot of work and time. However, this is not necessarily true and it also depends on the enjoyment you get out of it. Like any hobby, you can give it as much or as little time as you want. Also, when you really enjoy gardening, the time you spend preparing your garden is enjoyable too, not just the moment the flowers start to bloom.
When preparing a garden, one of the main decisions gardeners have to make is whether to use annual or perennials or a mix of both. In case you don’t know, annual plants live for a short time only, while perennials live longer. Professional gardeners, that is, people who make a living by gardening, prefer a mixture of both, but also take into consideration the general arrangement and look they want at the end.
Most of us, however, do better using perennials. That way, we don’t have to re-plant our gardens every year.
While some people prefer to buy grown perennials, this can be quite expensive and if not properly taken care of, the plants will die shortly. The best way to go is from the beginning, by getting perennial seeds and planting them from scratch. This is also more fun for the true gardener and much more satisfying at the end, not to mention much cheaper.
There are plenty of stores that sell perennial seeds. In fact, you can get perennial seeds online if you want. If you are unsure of what perennial seeds you need, ask the florist to show you grown plants of that variety to see what they will be like when they grow. That way you can get a mix of perennial seeds that will give you plants that look well together. Another good option is to buy some pre packaged selections of perennial seeds. These give you the advantage of buying perennial seeds of plants that are sure to match. Also, all the perennial seeds in pre packaged selections are compatible with a specific type of weather, so there’s little chance that some will die first as a result of extreme temperatures or climate conditions.
Finally, don’t worry about buying too many perennial seeds. With most prices going from 3 to 5 dollars, they’re much less expensive than grown perennials. Plus, if you don’t have experience with gardening, you’ll probably need more than what you thought you’d need, and you’ll be glad you have some extra ones for back up.
